Yahoo Homepage [Good]

Marvelous layout of information because the website creates a balance between words and pictures. Since the site is a news website, the more information/topics/news being display, the better it is. Even though that is the case, Yahoo's architecture of information is excellent. Having a vast amount of information on the site but did not create confusion or distraction to the user due to the site divided its contents into sections and categories. Hence, helping the user find what they need quickly and efficiently. The website has a noticeable search bar, so the user can search if they deem necessary. It is still visible even if the user scrolls down the page. In addition to the search bar, the site has a clutter-free navigation bar for general topic. In order to avoid clutter, the topics are limited on the navigation bar and added the "more" option so if the user cannot find what they want on the general navigation bar, they can simply click "more". Overall, the website is well design with user-friendly formatting.

Yahoo Answer [Bad]

Even though Yahoo Answer has the navigation and search bar just like its Homepage, Yahoo answer is the other side of the coin compares to Yahoo Homepage. The text alignment is not center, there are large amounts of space on the right site of the website. On my opinion, it would be better if the whole website align center since the user tend to look at the center or middle anyway, there is no point leaving the space on the right open. In addition, the website is lack of pictures and too much contents (questions and answers). It also does not have an attractive coloring because the whole website is mostly white background. Last but not least, the page has one section ("Trending Now" on the right) that does not related to the rest of the website since it is a question and answer website. For the best, that section should not be there because it creates distraction for the user. Thus, I do not believe this website has a good design.

Canvas Dashboard [Good]

At first glance, the website has captivated coloring that makes it simple but elegant at the same time. There is a beautiful balance between the white background and the color blocks of your classes. The user can change these block color to any basic colors as they wish. A sizable navigation bar on the left helps the user spot it easier since most site has their navigation bar on the top of the page. As the result of its educational purpose, the website has subsections on the right telling the user what they need to do ("Coming Up") and what is their grade on the latest assignment ("Recent Feedback") which is extremely helpful since the user do not have to navigate through everything and find them. In a way, it is a short cut for lazy students like myself. All they have to do is have a quick look on the right. In essence, the FAU canvas dashboard has an ideal design for its target user.

Fandango Homepage [Bad]

Despite the fact Fandango uses Social media integration on their website, there are numerous poor designing styles that made the website substandard. There is unevenness in the site layout. The now playing list (top list) is too little compare to the slideshow banner. Hence, there is unused space on the right side. The website divided their contents into smaller sections. However, there are unequal space between each sections and lack of information about each section (section title); therefore, the user will have trouble determine what those sections are about. The slideshow banner changing very quickly from one movie to another, which is not only make it difficult for the user to follow its content, but also distracting. All and all, I think the website has a poor design.

Art Gallery Fabrics [Good]

In case you do not know, this website is about fabric art. It is a straightforward website with a very good layout. Since the website doesn't have many words on it, the designer limited the number of pictures as well. However, shouldn’t an art website want to show as much art as possible on its Homepage? The reason behind this is to emphasize on each piece of fabric rather than have many of them being display. To make up for the drawback of displaying less pictures, the website uses the slideshow in the center. Not to mention, it has an appealing contrasting color scheme with grey background which makes the colorful fabric stand out. Also, the background color does not have much contrast, so it does not make the user uncomfortable. Through the use of Social Media Integration, the website can get more visitors. In a way, that is free advertisement. It has a navigation bar to help the user navigate on the site. Generally speaking, this website is well-planned on my opinion.
